Common Worries/Questions about joining band
Does Band take up too much time?
Band is a class during the school day. There are typically 4 concerts per school year and 7th grade students are only required to practice 10 minutes per day at home. This builds gradually to 20 minutes per day at home in our top group. A lot of our most advanced band students are actually the ones in AP classes, competitive sports and other time consuming things and year after year manage to make everything work.
My Student has zero musical experience and/or musical talent. Can they learn an instrument?
We take students with varying levels of ability. Some have had piano and may have not. It's all about being exposed to great music, learning correctly, and working to get better. We offer a summer band to help our new students get kids started off right. If your student is willing to work we will help them get it!
Getting Started: (Check out the "Getting Started/Frequently asked Questions" document above for more information)
Choose a band instrument (approve with Mr. Crosby). Email him at bcrosby@alpinedistrict.org
(starting instruments include clarinet, oboe, bassoon, flute, trumpet, trombone, percussion)
Sign-up for band (if you aren't signed fill out a change of class form on the main Willowcreek Website)
Bring this form to a quality music store like summerhayes music in orem to rent-to-own your instrument and get the recommended supplies: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19KimUzubh8MYGJSloKi22miMakHP0V-4DLb7MA5TBgA/edit?usp=sharing
If possible attend Summer Band (see below). If that doesn't work for you I can set up an outside time to get you started.
